Yutian completed her undergraduate study in English at Wenzhou-Kean University, China, where she developed her interest in literary modernism and postmodernism. She later studied International Relations and History with a concentration on modern Chinese history and material culture at the University of Nottingham Ningbo, China as a MA student. She is now working at early Chinese cinema in relation to Chinese modernity.
