The Cathedral of Learning was covered in mist, fog, and rain on April 29, the day before the University held its official Commencement Ceremony at the John M. and Gertrude E. Peterson Events Center. This was the day EALL held its annual reception for graduating Chinese and Japanese majors and their friends and families. This year's event was in the beautiful O'Hara student ballroom and was attended by by over sixty students, and guests.
Professor James A. Cook, Acting Director of the Asian Studies Center presented an encouraging send-off speech to the graduates, relating his own challenging and rewarding experiences in learning several Asian languages.
We also presented achievement awards to six students:

Academics Prize in Japanese: Gabrielle Lee
Language Achievement Award in Japanese: Emma Lurye
Academics Prize in Korean: Ishtar Nyawira
Language Achievement Award in Korean: Elise Marie Antel
Jessica Crawford, Ryan Doran, and Wade Putman were inducted into the National Collegiate Chinese Honor Society of the Chinese Language Teachers Association.
